Weeks after Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution, the rap mogul’s mother Janice Smalls Combs broke her silence over his imprisonment and allegations.

In a statement provided to Page Six through her attorney, Janice came to her now infamous son’s defense.
“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,” she declared. “To bear witness what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words.”
“Like every human being, my son deserves to have his day in court,” Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother continued. “To finally share his side, and to prove his innocence.”
Janice referenced the shocking surveillance video showing her son assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel hallway in 2016.
“I am not here to portray my son as perfect because he is not. He has made mistakes in his past, as we all have,” she said. “My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things, such as denying he has ever gotten violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel’s surveillance showed otherwise.”
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Mother Continues to Support Him Through His Legal Woes
Continuing her statement, Janice pointed out that her son had settled out of court with Ventura nearly a year ago.
“Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story,” she said. “Especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed.”
“This is why I believe my son’s civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit instead of contesting it until the end,” she continued. “Resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpreting it as an admission of guilt.”
In regards to the other sexual assault allegations that have been made against her son, Janice shared her own perspective.
“Not being entirely straightforward about one issue does not mean my son is guilty of the repulsive allegations and the grave charges leveled against him,” she said. ““Many individuals who were wrongfully convicted and later exonerated had their freedom taken from them not because they were guilty of the crimes they were accused of, but because they didn’t fit the image of what this society considers to be a ‘good person.’”
She further noted, “History has showed us how individuals can be wrongfully convicted due to their past actions or mistakes.”
Janice stated the allegations made against her son are “motivated by those seeking a financial gain, and not justice.”
“It is truly agonizing to watch the world turn against my son so quickly,” she added. “And easily over lies and misconceptions. Without ever hearing his side or affording him the opportunity to present his side.”
Where is Diddy Now?
Sean “Diddy” Combs continues to maintain his innocence. He is currently awaiting his next courtroom appearance at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center. He has been denied bail twice since his New York City arrest in mid-September.
Along with his mother, Diddy’s children are continuing to stand by him. A source close to Combs’ family previously revealed he has been able to speak to his children following his arrest. They also said the rapper is very concerned for his family’s well-being through the situation.
“He has three minor children,” the source pointed out. “Two of whom now have no living parent available with him incarcerated. Four of his seven children have neither parent available with him incarcerated.”
A second source also stated Diddy’s children are “in a state of crisis and shock” about the situation. “It’s heartbreaking to see the children in the state they’re in,” the second insider continued “This is their father. But to them, he’s not Diddy — he’s Dad. He has always been a loving, devoted father.”
Diddy is the father of Quincy, Justin, Christian, Chance, twins Jessie and D’Lila, and Love.
