Earlier this year, the Charmed star detailed her funeral arrangements, from how she wanted to have her remains mixed with her dog and her dad’s to have a list of people who are not invited to the event.
“There’s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there,” Shannen Doherty said during a January 2024 episode of her Let’s Be Clear podcast. “I don’t want them there because their reasons for showing up aren’t necessarily the best reasons.”
She continued by pointing out, “Like, they don’t really like me and, you know, they have their reasons, and good for them, but they don’t actually really like me enough to show up to my funeral.”
Shannen Doherty further noted that some people may attend her funeral due to “pressure,” which is not something she wanted. [They’ll show up] because it’s the politically correct thing to do,” she explained. “And they don’t want to look bad, so I kinda want to take the pressure off them.”
The late actress then said that she wanted her funeral to be a “love fest” instead. “I don’t want people to be crying or people to privately be like, ‘Thank god that b—- is dead now,’” she added.
Shannen Doherty passed away on July 13 following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Her publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed the news of her passing in a statement.
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie,” the statement reads. “The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
Holly Marie Combs Said Shannen Doherty Promised to ‘Haunt’ Her When She Died
Reflecting on her friendship with Charmed co-star Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs said the late actress made her a unique promise before her death.
“Shannen promised to haunt me but I thought she’d be occupied with a few others at first,” Combs shared. “Alas, I’m sure it will show up when and where I least expect it. My rock. 10:18.”
Combs previously shared an emotional tribute to Shannen Doherty. “My better half of 31 years,” Combs wrote of the late Beverly Hills, 90210 star.
“There is a hollow in my chest and I can’t seem to catch my breath. A part of me is missing even though I know exactly what you would say to me right now. I know exactly what you would tell me to do right now.”
She added, “I know your undying spirit will live in me and my kids who you loved as your own. They will walk with your sense of purpose and pride. They will be truthful and stand up for what is right. No matter what and zero f—s given. Your fire will live on in them and the many other Charmed ones you helped raise.”
