While visiting the Army Flying Museum in South East England, the king spoke to veteran Aaron Mapplebeck. During their conversation, Mapplebeck recalled losing his sense of taste while going through chemotherapy for testicular cancer.
King Charles said he experienced the same side effect of the treatment. However, he didn’t share any more details. The royal has yet to reveal what type of cancer he has or the treatment he is currently receiving.
The king’s cancer diagnosis was publicly announced earlier this year. Buckingham Palace released a statement about the situation.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the statement reads. “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
Despite his cancer situation, King Charles has resumed his public duties. In late March, the king’s nephew, Pete Phillips, stated the king had become restless and frustrated.
“But he is very pragmatic [and] he understands that there’s a period of time that he really needs to focus on himself. He is always pushing his doctors and nurses to be able to say, ‘Actually, can I do this? Can I do that?’”
However, since then, his doctors have approved of him resuming his duties in late April, but with caution.
King Charles Gives Prince William the Title of ‘Colonel-in-Chief’ of the Army Air Corps
On Monday, May 13, King Charles presented his eldest son, Prince William, with the title of “Colonel-in-Chief” of the Army Air Corps during a ceremony held at the Army Aviation Centre.
The title was once linked to Prince Harry, as the title made Prince William the commander of his younger brother’s former Army Air Corps regiment.
Before Prince Harry stepped down from his senior royal duties in 2020, many people assumed he was going to be presented with the title. This was due to his serving with the Army Air Corps in Afghanistan.
The military ceremony came just days after Prince Harry returned to London to celebrate the 10th annual Invictus Games. The prince was unable to see his father or his brother due to their busy schedules.
Royal expert Christopher Andersen told Fox News that the dismissive response of the prince’s London visit as well as King Charles presenting Prince William with the title was a “calculated” and “cruel snub.”
“If there were any doubts that Harry is dead to his father and brother, then this one-two punch from King Charles should dispel them once and for all,” Anderson said.
“By announcing that he was too busy to see Harry, even though the two men are just two miles apart, and then officially giving Harry’s colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps title to William – one of the honorary military titles Harry cherished most – the king is slamming the door in Harry’s face.”
