While speaking to PEOPLE about her pregnancy, Gypsy Rose admitted she and Urker were “very” surprised.
The couple conceived in April weeks after they were spotted getting tattoos and hanging out in New Orleans together. This was days after Blanchard announced her separation from soon-to-be ex-husband, Ryan Anderson.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard said she took a pregnancy test on May 24 at her father Rod and stepmother Kristy’s Cut Off, La. home. She asked her stepmother to read the test for her.
“Can you make sure this test says what I think it says?” Gypsy Rose recalled asking Kristy. Her stepmother then responded, “Girl, you’re pregnant” with tears in her eyes. “Oh my God” was Gypsy Rose’s first thought.
The former convict stated she had previously spoken to her doctor and thought she was having problems ovulating and couldn’t conceive easily. “I literally had taken that out of my mind as a possibility,” she pointed out.
After a second pregnancy confirmed she was pregnant, she and Kristy FaceTimed Urker to tell him the news.
“His face was priceless,” Kristy stated. “He just had a big smile on his face. It’s such a blessing and it’s still unreal. They will be great parents and cherish every minute of it.”
Kristy then said, “When they hold their baby for the first time, they won’t be able to imagine their life without their child. Everything just melts away, even when she gets a lot of hate about it.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Wants to Give Her Baby ‘Everything She Always Wanted in a Mother’
While reflecting on how she will approach motherhood, Gypsy Rose Blanchard stated she wants to give her baby everything she’s always wanted in a mother.
“I want to be kind, that my kids come to me for any kind of advice, just like my stepmother,” she explained. “I have seen how she has parented her children — and I think she’s a kick-a— mom.”
“She’s supportive and not overbearing. She lets her kids find their dreams while also being able to pick up the pieces when those dreams fall apart sometimes — so that’s kind of the mantra I want to live by.”
Noting how the baby will impact her relationship with Urker, Blanchard said she understands having the bundle of joy may add more stress in the couple’s lives.
“I’m not going to say that I think that a baby will help a marriage or a relationship, because obviously there’s the added stress. I know that realistically, there’s going to be arguments too.”
Gypsy Rose also pointed out that both she and Urker come from divorced parents. They agree that they are sticking together for the long haul from day one. “This is a forever thing because we don’t want our child to grow up in a broken home,” she added.
