Gypsy Rose Blacnhard’s mother was murdered on June 9, 2015, at the age of 49. Gypsy Rose and her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn thought up the plan to murder Dee Dee to “free” Gypsy Rose from her mother’s care.
On June 14, 2015, the police discovered Dee Dee’s body, which had more than a dozen stab wounds. Gypsy Rose and Nicholas had fled the scene and were later discovered at Godejohn’s family home. Both were arrested and charged with murdering Dee Dee.
What Led to Gyspy Rose Blanchard to Help Murder Her Mother?
From her childhood leading up to the murder, Dee Dee Blanchard took Gypsy Rose to more than 100 doctors. Dee Dee would claim that her daughter had all kinds of illnesses, from muscular dystrophy to leukemia.
Gypsy Rose was also forced to use a wheelchair and underwent chemotherapy, despite not having cancer. Due to the medical treatments she went through, Gypsy Rose ended up losing the majority of her teeth.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard was later found to be a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. This is described as a rare mental illness and form of child abuse where a caretaker feigns a child’s dire symptoms. The disease is usually caused by the caregiver looking to gain sympathy and/or financial support.
Although she participated in the murder, Gypsy Rose was found guilty of second-degree murder. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, she was released after serving eight years.
Nicolas, who was the one who stabbed Dee Dee, was found guilty of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
Since leaving prison, Gypsy Rose has ended her marriage to Ryan Scott Anderson, whom she married during a prison ceremony in 2022. She is now with her ex-fiance Ken Urker and they are expecting their first child together.
