Well, the jig is almost up for Slim Shady. Eminem is killing off his alter ego in a dramatic fashion. There’s even an obituary.
In the lead up to his new album, Eminem dropped an obituary for the iconic rapper Slim Shady. The headline reads, “Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions.” It also acts as a brilliant piece of advertisement for his upcoming album The Death of Slim Shady. The obituary continues, “Fans ‘Will Never Forget’ Controversial Rapper.”
The picture features Eminem or should we say Slim Shady in overalls and a hockey mask. Eminem last wore something similar for his 2000s Up in Smoke tour. It’s clear that the rapper is pulling from his past for this album.
“A product of Detroit who began his career there as a rogue splinter in the flourishing underground rap scene of the mid to late 1990s, Shady first became a household name in 1999 with the debut of his playfully deranged single ‘My Name Is,'” the obituary reads.
It continues, “Ultimately, the very things that seemed to be the tools he used became calling cards that defined an existence that could only come to a sudden and horrific end. May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth.”
Eminem Says Goodbye To Slim Shady
The obituary also says, That audience was soon exposed to the extreme darkness of the muse/ rapper, as he led millions of music fans down a road that glorified a demonstrably nihilistic worldview.”
The piece marks an end to Slim Shady. Eminem also ran the add in Monday’s Detroit Free Press. So far it appears that Eminem is treating Slim Shady as if he is his own individual person and not just a nickname for the rapper himself.
It’s true that Eminem’s music has changed dramatically from his Slim Shady days. The rapper exploded onto the scene with sarcasm, humor, and overinflated ego that defined his Slim Shady persona. However, as Eminem got older, his music grew more serious and sincere as a result.
For many fans, Slim Shady has been gone for a while with Eminem escaping the shadows of his alter ego. However, it appears that Eminem wants to give Slim Shady one last moment in the sun. If this is the end of Slim Shady, then the rapper is making sure that he goes out in style.
