Bindi Irwin is living her best life as the mother to three-year-old Grace. In the past, it’s been brought up that her brother Robert is a spitting image of their late father Steve Irwin. Well, apparently even Bindi’s daughter Grace gets them confused.

She sometimes calls her uncle “Grandpa Crocodile.” During a recent event, Bindi’s mother Terri revealed that Grace sometimes mistakes her uncle for her grandfather. Apparently, her nickname for the late Steve Irwin is “Grandpa Crocodile,” which she also uses for Robert. The nickname of course pays homage to Irwin’s title as the Crocodile Hunter.
Terri thinks that it’s “really special” for Grace to notice the similarities between the two. Both Robert and Steve share a lot of characteristics and similarities. They’re both physically similar but also share a love for animals. That’s something Bindi also shares.
Bindi’s father passed away after a sting-ray barb pierced his heart. Though he was known for his animal activism, Bindi said her father always put his kids first above anything else. It’s something that she remembers about him all these years later.
Bindi Irwin Honors Late Father
“The best thing our parents ever did for us was be there for us, no matter what was happening in the world, with our conservation work. Mom and Dad were there for Robert and me 100% of the time,” Bindi said. “Life is filled with ups and downs, but if you can count on your parents to love you and support you through your life journey, that’s everything, and I hope I can do that for Grace.”
“You treat people with kindness, respect, love and loyalty when your parents show that to you as well,” she continued, about the example she wants to set for her daughter.
Meanwhile, Steve may be gone, but Bindi is making sure that he remains a part of her daughter’s life. She’s been showing her daughter videos of Steve through his many journeys. It allows her to connect with him in a way that she can’t given his tragic passing.
“We have so many documentaries of Dad, and we’re always playing them for Grace,” Bindi told PEOPLE in 2022.
“It’s so fun to watch her study him,” she added. “I didn’t realize how much Dad’s passion for life and his animated facial expressions — I mean, they captivate her.”
