Smith captured the awesome moment on video for his social media accounts.
“We’re in Baldwin Hills. We’re about to go in the theater,” Smith says in the video. “It’s a ritual I have when I have a movie come out. On Friday… Saturday… usually a matinee on Sunday, I like going to the theaters.”
Will Smith Shocks LA Moviegoers at ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ Showing
So, how did Will Smith pull this off? He’s wearing a medical mask and sitting in the back of the theater. Once the film was over, however, Smith took the mask off and started chatting with fans outside of the theater.
Smith then took photos with the fans and accepted lots of praise for the film, which appeared to have been a hit with everyone in attendance. While certainly a clever way to help market the film online, there’s no doubt that Smith made everlasting memories for everyone who got to share a brief moment with him.
Social Media Users Sound Off on Viral Moment
Video of Smith’s moviegoing experience quickly went viral online. Users had lots to say about the moment – with many making jokes about the infamous Chris Rock slap from 2022.
“Great moment for everyone walking out of Bad Boys, not so great for the people watching Garfield in theater 4 across the hall, suddenly hearing loud jubilant screams and hollering from outside,” one user joked.
“Yeah, I think he’s survived The Slap just fine. Can we start focusing on actual monsters in the industry now?” another added.
“Whoever is running Will Smith’s PR run right now deserves an award,” another quipped.
