Less than a month before her body was discovered at Lumber River State Park in Lumberton, North Carolina, Mica wrote an eerie Facebook post about “terrible things happening.”
In the April 9 post, Mica wrote, “When terrible terrible TERRIBLE things happen to you… (yall know what I’m talking about).”
The post also featured a selfie of Mica. “RPF: resting peace face,” she continued to write. She also used the hashtags #stillblessed #Godisgood.”
Mica was found in North Carolina on April 27 with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Her husband announced to his congregation that Mica had died by suicide. This was after the South Carolina pastor had requested that no one discuss her death at the church.
“It was self-induced and it was up in North Carolina,” he told the congregation after announcing Mica’s death. “Y’all pray for me and my kids and everybody. You all know she wasn’t well mentally and she needed medicine that was hard to get to her. I’m sure there will be more details to come, but keep her family in your prayers.”
However, Mica’s family and friends were taken aback by the South Carolina pastor’s comments. John-Paul and Mica had notably been dealing with some marital issues over the past six months. Mica had previously filed for divorce in Oct. 2023 before having it dismissed in Feb. 2024. However, both John-Paul and Mica had filed for “separate and maintenance,” with Mica having a scheduled hearing for June 5.
Mica’s family stated there was also a “no contact order and divorce filed” days before she allegedly killed herself.
A Friend of South Carolina Pastor’s Wife Reflects on Her Mental Health Struggles Before Sudden Death
In a lengthy post on Facebook, a friend of Mica Miller’s, Angela Clark opened up about the South Carolina pastor’s wife and her mental health struggles.
“I will not sit here and pretend that I know exactly what happened on Saturday,” Clark wrote. “But I know A LOT. I am well aware, in the past, that Mica had mental health issues.”
Clark then shared that while she witnessed Mica’s struggles, she knew in the last few months that her mental health had been used as a weapon against her. “The Mica I saw at the beginning of her mental health journey was not the Mica I witnessed in the last month. The Mica I was seeing was a grown woman trying to break the chains of an abusive marriage.”
Clark recalled the last time she had spoken to Mica. She wrote Mica had been making plans, moving forward, and trusting God as she navigated the struggles she was facing with John-Paul. “She was sorting out her new normal and God was putting the right people around her.”
Clark further pointed out that Mica was planning to leave the South Carolina church where John-Paul was a pastor of, but she was also planning to leave her marriage. Clark claimed that the situation wasn’t getting any better for Mica, as she dealt with multiple incidents, including her tires being cut multiple times, and discovering trackers on her vehicle.
“[She] couch hopped in fear of being found and was hospitalized by her husband when it was completely unnecessary,” Clark noted.
Clark’s Facebook post comes just after John-Paul gave a public interview about Mica’s mental health. He claimed that she had been struggling mentally for years.
