A North Carolina man is living his dream. Well, his sister’s at least. North Carolina native David Atwell said his sister dreamed that he found a bunch of gold. Shortly after, he won a lottery worth nearly a million dollars. Talk about cosmic foreshadowing.
In a press release, Atwell explained how his win had been foreordained by his sister. Apparently, she had some cosmic powers because Atwell won a $837,187 Cash 5 jackpot win on Saturday.
“In her dream, I found a bunch of gold,” he recalled. “I guess dreams do come true.” However, maybe it had nothing to do with his sister’s psychic powers. Atwell said that luck has always been with him. In general, he got all the luck within his family, so it made sense to him.
“My family always said I was the luckiest one in the family,” he laughed. Still, Atwell was amazed by the win. The North Carolina man bought a $1 lotto ticket at the Jiffy Quik on Sloop Avenue in Kannapolis. He was astonished when all of his numbers matched. Those odds are 1 in 962,598.
“I was stunned,” he said. “At first I saw the jackpot went back down to $100,000 so I knew someone hit it. I had no idea it was me.” As you can imagine, the North Carolina man could barely contain his emotions. He even scared their pet.

“He was hollering so much it scared the cat,” Atwell’s wife Cherie said. From there, it was a quick trip to the lottery headquarters in Raleigh. The North Carolina man had to pay taxes so he ended up taking home $598,591. Not a bad chunk of change. Atwell plans to give back to his church as well as pay down some debt.
Several people responded to his good fortune. One person wrote, “Time for a 2nd honeymoon touring Europe for 3 months, Sorry thats my dream.”
