Stunning drone footage shows a stunt gone wrong on Eddie Murphy’s latest film set, leading to 8 crew members hospitalized after the crash.
In this newly acquired footage from TMZ, an armored truck is seen arriving next to a car involved in a scene for Murphy’s latest project, The Pickup. This particular incident occurred last weekend. However, Murphy and the other actors were not present on set that day and were not involved.
TMZ posted the drone footage from the incident on X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, the truck follows closely behind the car, attempting a complex maneuver on the road that had been meticulously choreographed and planned. However, it seems the rehearsed moment between the two vehicles misfired, causing both to veer off the road unexpectedly.
Their bodies appeared lifeless as they were thrown and struck the ground, showcasing the dangers of stunt work. Both individuals were rushed to the hospital with injuries that threatened their lives.
The collision occurred at Stockmar Airport in Villa Rica, located approximately 30 miles west of Atlanta. The operation involved an armored GMC C6 tasked with executing a “precision immobilization technique”. It was to pursue the BMW and strategically tap its rear wheel area to bring it to a stop effectively.
A GoFundMe Campaign is Ongoing for a Stuntperson Injured on Eddie Murphy’s Latest Set
Marvin Haven, a crew member reported to have sustained severe injuries, is currently in the ICU. His family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support his recovery.
He has suffered extensive injuries, including several fractures in his neck and back, a broken scapula, a punctured lung, and a fractured skull, among others. His condition is critical, and his family is requesting prayers. They’ve raised just over $117,000 so far, with a $250,000 goal.
A representative from Amazon MGM Studios informed The Hollywood Reporter that The Pickup is set to undergo a federal investigation due to the failed stunt.
“As the investigation is open, we are unable to provide preliminary or interim information at this time,” the spokesperson told the outlet. “We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why. First and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.”
Meanwhile, in a formal statement, the Hollywood crew union IATSE announced its awareness of the accident. They have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
The Pickup is a heist comedy featuring Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, and Keke Palmer, with Eva Longoria and Marshawn Lynch. Directed by Tim Story of Barbershop fame, the plot of this Amazon MGM Studios film remains a secret.
