However, it appears that McCarthy has no hard feelings towards Streisand. In fact, she had only good things to say about the actor when asked.
“I think Barbra is a treasure and I love her,” McCarthy told TMZ. The outlet asked McCarthy if Streisand was “out of line” for her question. Streisand previously asked McCarthy if she was on the weight loss drug in a now-deleted Instagram message.
Streisand also addressed the controversy. She said she didn’t mean any harm by her comment.
She wrote, “I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday! Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album.”
“She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!” added Streisand.
The controversy began when McCarthy posted a photo of herself and director Adam Shankman at the Center Theatre Group’s CTG The Gala event.
“Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman!!” she wrote in the caption. “Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage.”
In response, Streisand wrote, “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?” However, she has since deleted the message.

Barbra Streisand Draws Backlash For Melissa McCarthy Comment
Streisand’s message drew backlash online. One person wrote, “Take the iPad away from Babs immediately!”
Another commented, “Yikes to everyone saying it should be a private message, this is an inside thought that doesn’t make it to the outside,” one person commented. “She’s an old lady. Old ladies say mean things.”
Still, another wrote, “Melissa has lost weight before. This was just a cruel comment. Weird,”
McCarthy and Streisand have a previous friendship. They performed a duet of “Anything You Can Do” for Streisand’s album Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. “I think when she opened the door she had leggings on and lunch meat in her hand. And I was like, none of this is what I expected,” McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly.
The actor has also been quite vocal about her struggles with weight loss. “I’ve been every size in the world. Parts of my 20s, I was in great shape, but I didn’t appreciate it. If I was a 6 or an 8, I thought, ‘Why aren’t I a 2 or a 4?'” she said.
“Now I feel like I have two great kids and the dreamiest husband on the planet, and everything else is just a work in progress.”
