Barbra Streisand caused a stir on Instagram, asking publicly if Melissa McCarthy’s slim down was thanks to Ozempic.
On Monday, the Bridesmaids star shared an Instagram photo featuring herself alongside director Adam Shankman at the Center Theatre Group’s 2024 Gala in Los Angeles. The event honored McCarthy’s friend, Matthew Bourne, as an artistic honoree.
“Pastels only to honor the incredible [Matthew Bourne] at the [Center Theatre Group] gala last night with this fella [Adam Shankman]!!” McCarthy wrote alongside the photo.
“Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage.” The photograph captures McCarthy with a smile, clad in a ruffled green dress.
Nonetheless, the festivities took an uncomfortable detour when Streisand posted a candid question in the comments section. “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?” the 82-year-old legendary singer asked.

Fans Rush to Drag (and Defend) Barbra Streisand’s Comment to Melissa McCarthy
Unsurprisingly, many Instagram denizens didn’t take kindly to Barb’s seemingly mean-spirited question. Fans were taken aback by Streisand’s forthright questioning of McCarthy, especially since the actor’s Instagram post did not concern weight.
“Barbara, if you don’t have something nice to say…” one fan wrote. “Babs. No, honey. Just no,” a second fan added. “Shame on you,” a third fan chimed in.
Of course, others dragged the octogenarian for even daring to comment on social media. “Major boomer aunt with wine and an iPad energy”, one Instagram denizen quipped. “Take the iPad away from Babs immediately!”, another added.
However, Barbra Streisand had her defenders in the comments under Melissa McCarthy’s Instagram post. “Leave Barbara alone she would never do that on purpose I believe she meant that for a private question,” one fan wrote.
“Barbra Streisand is a legend. Who cares if she asked her if she takes Ozempic, I take it and it’s working amazing,” another added. “As an octogenarian, I think Babs probably thought she was DMing her,” a third defender pointed out.
Meanwhile, other star pals of McCarthy simply praised her outfit and beauty alongside Shankman. “Stunners!!”, Cocaine Bear director Elizabeth Banks gushed. “GORGEOUS!!!,” veteran actress Glenn Close added. “Gorgeous,” SVU star Mariska Hargitay echoed.
Ozempic, a medication for diabetes, has become immensely popular in Hollywood, endorsed by celebrities like Oprah Winfrey. However, figures such as Kate Winslet have expressed criticism over its widespread use in the entertainment sector.
