In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the Leverage star praised the Princess for her brave announcement. “Catherine, The Princess of Wales displayed such composure and grace today in her heartbreaking announcement,” Bellman stated. “Hoping her treatment is successful and also for a kinder world.”
That was when Gina Bellman decided to share her own cancer diagnosis. “I myself underwent treatment for Breast Cancer last summer,” she wrote.
“Until now- I didn’t have the courage to go public. 8 months on I’m back in stilettos and filming 14 hour days. For those undergoing treatment right now- there is light at the end of this tunnel.”
Bellman received nothing but praise by her fans for her announcement. “Thank you for sharing…on your terms,” one fan wrote. “It is how it should always be.”
“Think not about courage, you simply needed to keep your own confidence during that time to get thru it. And I say you do whatever it takes! I am OVERJOYED you are back & I bet better than ever!”
Another follower added, “Gina – I may just be a random fan, but I am grateful and proud of your willingness to be so vulnerable to share this information. I am 4 years this month on chemo for endometrial cancer, so I have a minuscule idea of what you face.”
Bellman played Sophie Deveraux on Leverage during its five-season run. The show ended in 2012. She is now reprising her popular role on Leverage: Redemption.
Gina Bellman Admits She Was Never Comfortable Being a ‘Sex Symbol’
During a recent interview, Gina Bellman opened up about her acting career over the years. She also spoke about her well-known popularity.
“I was never comfortable with the whole sex symbol thing,” Bellman admitted. “It was never me and I never wanted that.”
“I don’t like dressing up and I don’t like putting on make-up, or doing the red carpet. The only red carpet events I go to are if I’m supporting a friend.”
Gina Bellman further revealed that she is more of a tomboy when it comes to her sense of fashion. “I don’t like crowds or attention,” she continued. “But you’re on the wrong track if you think I had a lot of painful insecurities.”
Bellman previously admitted she felt like a “fraud” as an actor when she was a “pretty girl” who was hired for her looks and not her talent.
