A Colorado fire department is mourning the loss of a firefighter following an off-duty car crash last weekend.

In a post on Facebook, Arvada Fire announced that firefighter Kyle Trombly died after he suffered injuries in a motor vehicle accident. He was 34 years old and a 13-year member of the fire district, joining Arvada Fire in 2011.
“He started his fire service journey volunteering at Fairmount Fire until joining Arvada Fire,” the fire department shared about the fallen firefighter. “Most recently, Trombly served out of Station 1 A Shift from January 2023 to present. He also served at Station 4 in his career.”
The department further shared that Trombly was an active member of the Arvada Fire Honor Guard. “Kyle was a great friend to many. He leaves a lasting impression on all of those who were lucky to serve with him. Please keep Kyle’s family and loved ones and our entire Arvada Fire family in your thoughts.”
In an email statement to PEOPLE, the Colorado fire department shared it has yet to receive any details about the car crash that killed the longtime firefighter. The two-car accident happened on Highway 72 and Indiana Street in Arvada. No other injuries were reported.
Arvada Fire Chief Kirk Lock also spoke out about Trombly. “This is an unimaginable loss for Kyle’s family and our entire district,” Lock shared, per KUSA. “Kyle was an exceptional public servant, friend and colleague. He was relentlessly dedicated to learning his trade and bringing a high level of skill and courage to those in need.”
The Sister of the Fallen Colorado Firefighter Speaks Out
In the comment section of the Arvada Fire’s Facebook post, Kyle’s older sister, Stephanie Ann Trombly, paid tribute to him.
“He was the greatest man, brother, and friend anyone could ask for,” she wrote. “He will be deeply missed and I know he was so proud to be a firefighter and a brother to you all.”
Stephanie’s comment was flooded with support. “I am so, so sorry for your loss and for the rest of his family, friends, and community,” one commenter wrote. “There are no words of solace I can give, just my heartfelt prayers for you all.”
Another commenter shared, “Very saddened for your loss. Heartbreaking to lose such a dedicated and committed servant to our community. Kyle sounds like he was an exceptional man and firefighter. We are thankful for his service. Rest in peace, Kyle.”
