Brother Marquis was only 58 years old at the time of his passing. Which was sudden, to say the least. As of now, there are no details about the cause and manner of his death.
No Cause of Death Revealed in Brother Marquis’ Death
“The rapper passed away Monday. This is according to the group’s official social media accounts. Which noted he “went to the upper room.” 2LC’s manager confirmed his death to us but didn’t have any further details on the cause or manner,” TMZ reported.
The outlet also added that the cause of his death “appears to be natural” and that no foul play is suspected in his passing.
Rap Star Was Pivotal in 2 Live Crew’s Success
The birth of the 2 Live Crew was a defining moment for the hip-hop genre. They are responsible for several hits such as “Me So Horny,” “Hoochie Mama,” and “Shake a Lil’ Somethin'”
Some may even argue that the explicit and raunchy nature of the lyrics in today’s music is a direct result of the 2 Live Crew’s impact. TMZ also notes that despite not being a founding member of the rap crew, Brother Marquis helped them become the phenomenon that they are known as today.
And even after the group ultimately split, Brother Marquis still found a way to make waves in the music industry.
“By the early ’90s, most of the Crew was broken up — but Marquis went on to find more success in the music biz on his own… forming the group 2 Nasty, and he also went on to be featured on a ton of records as well… including for MCs like Ice-T and others,” TMZ wrote.
