Wendy Williams has broken her silence after receiving her recent diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). In a statement released to People on Friday, Williams, aged 59, expressed gratitude to fans for their support in the immediate aftermath of the announcement.
“I want to say I have immense gratitude for the love and kind words I have received after sharing my diagnosis of Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD),” Williams said. “Let me say, wow! Your response has been overwhelming. The messages shared with me have touched me, reminding me of the power of unity and the need for compassion.”
“I hope that others with FTD may benefit from my story. I want to also thank the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration for their kind words of support and their extraordinary efforts to raise awareness of FTD,” she added. She pled for personal space before adding, “just know that your positivity and encouragement are deeply appreciated.”

Wendy Williams’ care team revealed her dementia diagnosis on Thursday. In a press statement, the former talk show host’s team disclosed that she was diagnosed with dementia last year. They said that the illness and it’s symptoms “have already presented significant hurdles in Wendy’s life.”
“Wendy is still able to do many things for herself,” the team wrote. “Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed. She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way.”
Williams has faced various health challenges, such as Graves’ disease, lymphedema, and alcohol abuse. She sought treatment for “cognitive issues” in April 2023 and has a court-appointed legal guardian.
The upcoming Lifetime docuseries, Where Is Wendy Williams?, will delve into the journey of the former TV host’s physical and mental challenges. This two-night series commenced filming post the cancellation of her popular daytime talk show in June 2022.
Filming concluded when Williams sought treatment at an undisclosed facility in April 2023. This was under the supervision of a court-appointed financial guardian. This figure was previously unknown to the public and even to Williams’ family, who are also featured in the documentary. Despite these developments, Williams continues to hold the title of executive producer on this project, as part of her three-picture agreement with Lifetime.
However, on Thursday, Williams’ court-appointed caregiver, Sabrina Morrissey was publicly identified. She filed a lawsuit on Thursday seeking injunctive relief against Lifetime’s parent company, A+E Networks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
