A royal family member was arrested on his 66th birthday for suspected misconduct while in public office. He was released from police custody hours later and has not been charged.
The arrest occurred following the release of more Epstein file documents.
In a statement, Giuffre’s siblings thanked British police for taking action despite Andrew’s royal family background.
“At last, today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty,” the statement reads. “On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we extend our gratitude to the U.K.’s Thames Valley Police for their investigation and the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. He was never a prince. For survivors everywhere, Virginia did this for you.”
Shortly after Andrew’s release, Giuffre’s siblings, Sky and Amanda, spoke to CNN.
“I think one of the things Virginia had stated so clearly is he thought it was his entitlement,” Amanda said about Andrew. “And he had been protected and shielded by his royalty and his position for so long. I don’t believe that he even knew this day would come, that he would actually be arrested.”
She then said, “When I see him in that position of him sweating, which we know apparently at one period in time he couldn’t do, he’s sweating now … I think he’s sweating now.”
Virginia Giuffre Claimed She Was Trafficked By Epstein For Former Prince Andrew When She Was a Teen
Giuffre, who died by suicide in April 2025, claimed that she was trafficked for former Prince Andrew when she was a teen. Andrew has repeatedly denied her claims.
During his now-infamous 2019 interview with BBC’s Newsnight, the royal family member stated he didn’t recall ever meeting Giuffre. He also questioned a photo of them together with Maxwell.
“Nobody can prove whether or not that photograph has been doctored,” he said at the time.” But I don’t recall that photograph ever being taken.”
Giuffre was considered one of the most outspoken accusers of Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sex trafficking of minors. He died in jail by suicide before he was convicted.
However, his accomplice and former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted in 2021 for the recruitment and trafficking of underage girls for sexual abuse. She has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for her crimes.
In her memoir, Nobody’s Girl, which was released months after her death, Giuffre detailed her experience with the former prince. She stated she had three sexual encounters with the royal.
