During the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce and the show’s guest Andrew Santino watched the Punk’d episode. Santino was the mastermind behind the epic prank on Swift.
While explaining the episode, Santino told Travis Kelce about how Taylor Swift thought she had accidentally set off one of Justin Bieber’s Japanese fireworks, which destroyed a nearby boat. The duo were at Bieber’s Malibu house at the time.
“There was a wedding party [on board],” Santino recounted. “I was the groom, and we were dinghy-ed to shore with our boat on fire, and we blamed her for ruining our wedding.”
Travis Kelce laughed as Santino described the prant and said he has “got to ask Tay about that” incident. “I’ll see if she was trying to sell or not,” Kelce declared. “When I saw it, I bought it.”
Santino was confident that Taylor Swift bought it and called the prank “the perfect bit that worked.”
“Some of the bit were so wild they didn’t work,” Santino pointed out. “But hers was specifically great because there were so many pieces that came together. They don’t come together like that.”
Taylor Swift previously told CMT Insider that she was “absolutely traumatized and terrified by the Punk’d experience. When asked if she was planning to get back at Bieber for the prank, she stated she wasn’t “really that girl.”
“He’s too smart,” Swift said about Bieber at the time. “I’d never be able to punk him. Like, he’d figure it out, then turn the tables on me, and then it would be Justin 2, Taylor 0.”
Justin Bieber Said He Wanted to Prank Taylor Swift So He Could ‘Make Her Cry’
Following the 2012 Punk’d episode, Juster Bieber shared the key reason why he wanted to prank Taylor Swift on the show.
“Basically, she’s such a sweet girl so I wanted to like make her cry,” Bieber stated while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Punk’d creator Ashton Kutcher. Bieber was also hosting the show during the episode. “So I wanted to think of something that would really do that.”
Justin then described Taylor Swift as being so sensitive. “So I knew that if she thought she broke up a wedding… she was literally flipping out. She was like, ‘This is not okay, there’s people’… all of a sudden the bride’s swimming into the shore.”
When asked how he felt about Bieber hosting Punk’d, Kutcher said, “I spoke to my producing partner and sia,d ’if that kid wants to do the show, and you feel that he can pull it off, that the kid. Bring him in.’”
Kutcher also recalled looking up Bieber when he first heard about him. “I was like, ‘Who is this kid?’ The music he was posting, I thought, ‘Wow this is really, really good!’”
