During his speech about the Kansas City Chief’s Super Bowl VIII win, President Biden called Kelce to the podium. “I’d have Travis come up here,” Biden declared. “But God only knows what he’d say.”
Biden was referring to the hilarious viral 2023 scene where Travis Kelce stepped up to the presidential podium with his teammate Patrick Mahomes to present the world leader with a Kansas City Chiefs jersey.
“So, I’ve been waiting for this…” Kelce shared before Mahomes playfully redirected him from the podium. Mahomes then apologized to the crowd.
“Travis, come here,” Biden said. “It’s all yours, pal.”
Travis Kelce shyly walked up to the podium, and stated, “My fellow Americans, it’s nice to see you all yet again.”
However, Kelce quickly and jokingly admitted he was warned about being near the podium during his 2024 visit. “I’m not going to lie, President Biden. They told me if I came up here, I’d get tased. I’m going to go back to my spot, all right?”
Following some laughter, Travis Kelce and President Biden shook hands. Kelce then told Biden that it was good to see him before the mic was turned to chairman and CEO of the Chiefs, Clark Hunt.
Travis previously told his brother Jason about the hilarious 2023 podium incident during their New Heights podcast.
“I’ve always admired, obviously, the president at the podium is iconic, right? I shouldn’t have started off with ‘I’ve always wanted to do this,'” he said. Travis also pointed out that Mahomes, “knew right away I was in over my head” and kept him from embarrassing himself “in front of the whole world.”
President Joe Biden Tells Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs He ‘Kinda’ Likes ‘Winning Back-to-Back’
During his speech, President Biden praised Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates for their back-to-back Super Bowl wins.
“Winning back-to-back,” Biden declared. “I kinda liked that.”
Biden was hinting at his potential re-election as he prepared to go up against former President Donald Trump in an election re-match. The president went on to praise the Chiefs for their determination.
“That’s the powerful lesson about sports and the nation,” Biden shared. “We’re a great nation because we’re a good people. We never give up. We look out for one another.”
Biden then said, “We leave no one behind. That’s America.”
Along with praising the Chiefs, Biden was given a helmet by the team. He quickly made the decision to put the helmet on at the end of the presentation.
Speaking about Biden putting the helmet on, Mahomes said, “it was cool to see him put the helmet on. We didn’t expect that.”
