The Beverly Hills, 90210 started the debut episode of her new misSPELLING podcast by calling her soon-to-be ex to tell him she filed for divorce on Friday, March 29.
Knowing that McDermott was working, Tori Spelling decided to leave a voicemail announcing what she did.
“I’ve never felt more alone,” Spelling explained as she discussed the end of her 18-year marriage with McDermott. “I don’t feel worth loving. That’s the truth. And that’s something that’s just in you, it’s not something I wanted or created. That starts when you’re young. [And changing it] that’s not easy to do… I don’t know if you can.”
Speaking about the filing process, Tori Spelling said, “There’s this weird thing that I didn’t know about before. That you have to be careful with your ex. It’s a he-said, she-said, who filed first.”
Spelling then said there were some key steps she had to do before she could let her ex know. “I had to file and go through the process,” she explained. And then once it was accepted and publicly posted, then I’m allowed to call and fill in my ex. So I just called Dean.”
Tori Spelling Admitted She Wanted to File for Divorce for ‘15 Years’
While continuing to discuss her marriage ending, Tori Spelling stated the relationship had been struggling for quite some time.
The actress said she’s been telling herself she wanted to file for divorce for “like… 15 years.” However, she didn’t go through with it because she wanted to “protect” her husband from getting hurt. She also wanted to protect their five children.
“We always say, ‘Hey, it made it 18 years,’” she said. “It shouldn’t have made it 18 years. And I think he would say the same thing if he and I had a real heart-to-heart. it would have been over a lot sooner.”
Tori Spelling said the “honeymoon period” between her and McDermott ended four months after they got together. They met on the set of the 2005 TV movie Mind Over Murder. They then had an affair and cheated on their former spouses Charlie Shanian and Mary Jo Eustace.
Spelling continued to say that she and McDermott had a very quick passionate falling-in-love period. She referred to it as “fast and furious romance” and praised her estranged husband for appreciating the side of her she rarely shows.
“I just remember I could show him me,” she noted. “It wasn’t like, the cute like giggly, ‘this is what people want me to be.’ I was able to be like, ‘Loud and like ugh, body-type of Tori. I could have a fowl mouth.”
Tori added there were “red flags” she saw early on. Among those were McDermott’s anger issues, which grew as their relationship remained in the public eye.
