According to the local media outlet 11 News, the deadly incident happened at the Taco Bell on Cochran Road in Scott Township, Pennsylvania, in 2022. The suspect, identified as Zairyre Simmons, was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Dorian Carver.
Simmons and Carver reportedly argued over a “write-up” shortly, and Carver left the restaurant and drove to a nearby Northwestern Mutual Bank to make a phone call. The former Taco Bell manager then followed Carver and shot him multiple times.
The Victim’s Family Speaks Out
While speaking to 11 News, the Carver’s mother, Carmella Wilson, called the verdict justice. “It was the right verdict,” she said. “In that courtroom, that boy, told nothing but lies. He lied, and then he never showed one ounce of remorse for killing my son.”
Carver’s grandmother, Shirley Wilson, also spoke out about the trial. “They tried to make my grandson sound like he was a bad human being. He was nothing like that. He was trying to get away from all that.”
Shirley then pointed out that Simmons chased her grandson down, and shot him. “So he (Simmons) got what he deserved,” she added.
Another family member previously stated in the preliminary hearing that the former Taco Bell manager should never see daylight again. “For him to think about what he did every day that he’s in that jail cell. We suffered a great loss, but this young man needs to pay for what he did.”
During the same preliminary hearing, defense attorney Corey Day also stated that his client expressed remorse for the situation. “Everyone is very remorseful about the situation. I have a strong feeling mental health is going to play a big part in how this case proceeds at the court of common pleas level.”
Simmons is scheduled to receive his sentence in May.
