During a recent interview with BBC, Saldívar revealed that if granted parole, her primary goal is to reintegrate into society and secure employment. She raised some eyebrows when she said that Colombian hitmaker Shakira was part of her plans.
However, no further details about why she wants to work with the Hips Don’t Lie songstress have been revealed.
Yolanda Saldívar was the previous president of Selena’s fan club and the manager of the singer’s boutiques. Just before the murder, Saldívar was fired from both positions due to her allegedly embezzling money from both organizations.
After agreeing to meet her at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Selena confronted Saldívar about the money on March 30, 1995. The singer was looking to retrieve financial records that Saldívar refused to turn over.
The two ended up in a heated argument and Yolanda Saldívar took a .38 Taurus Model 85 revolver from her purse and pointed it at Selena.
As the singer tried to flee, Saldívar shot her once in the back. The bullet severed an artery. As Selena tried to run away towards the lobby for help, Saldívar continued to pursue her, calling her a “b—.”
Selena was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died from blood loss.
Yolanda Saldívar was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Selena. She is up for parole on March 30, 2025, on the 30th anniversary of Selena’s death.
Yolando Saldívar’s Relative Recently Claimed She Is a ‘Political Prison At This Point’
Earlier this year, one of Yolanda Saldívar’s relatives spoke out about her imprisonment, still claiming that the shooting was accidental.
“Enough is enough,” the relative tells The Post in March. “She feels like she’s a political prisoner at this point. She’s ready to get out of jail, because she believes she has more than served her time.”
Yolanda Saldívar also made the same comment in Oxygen’s Selena and Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them documentary. “I was convicted by public opinion even before my trial started,” Saldívar shared in a prison interview. She further insisted that she did not intend to kill Selena.
Saldívar then stated she didn’t embezzle the money. She did acknowledge that she wrote and signed a check to herself, but said she did so at Selena’s request. This was in order to purchase a plane ticket for the singer to visit a plastic surgeon in Mexico, whom she was allegedly having an affair with.
Selena’s father has previously denied many of Saldívar’s claims and has referred to her as a liar.
