According to TMZ, “Cops say Sean had performed a show on the base [of Fort Irwin], and afterward he cooperated as the base police took him into custody on a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest warrant for fraud and theft charges. The arrest bookends a busy day for Sean and his family with law enforcement.”
Police also arrested Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, for fraud and theft. Additionally, authorities confiscated a ton of merchandise during Kingston’s home raid.
Before being arrested himself, Kingston posted on social media claiming that his “lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
Sean Kingston Arrested After Home Raid
Back in February, a company allegedly accused Kingston of not fully paying for his $150,000 home entertainment system. During the raid, a huge LED screen was reportedly dismantled and taken from his home.
According to the HuffPost, Kingston posted an update on social media earlier Thursday — before he was arrested.
“People love negative energy!” he said on Instagram. “I am good, and so is my mother! … My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
However, the post has since been taken down. Later Thursday evening, he was arrested.
Robert Rosenblatt, the attorney who is representing Kingston and his mother, allegedly stated in an email: “We are aware of some of the allegations … [and] we look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother.”
Meanwhile, on the other hand, attorney Dennis Card called out Kingston’s legal privilege as a celebrity.
“It is amazing what you can get away with if you are a celebrity,” Card told The Associated Press. “He creates this larger-than-life, ‘I am rich’ persona. His mother is a necessary component in this. He presents himself as a family-oriented guy, ‘I’m taking care of my mom,’ but she knows full well what is going on.”
