The university has decided to rescind an honorary degree that was given to Combs, as well as disband a scholarship program that is in his name. A $1M “gift agreement” Combs made in 2016 has also been terminated.
The decision follows the release of security footage from 2016 that shows Combs assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Combs is also currently being investigated for sexual trafficking.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Honorary Degree From Howard Revoked
The University also released a statement following their decision. The statement came from the school’s Board of Trustees.
“Mr. Combs’ behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor,” the statement reads.
The university claims that the board voted unanimously to rescind the honorary degree, which Combs received in 2014.
“This acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree. Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University.”
The university also ended a $1M donation pledge that Combs previously established. Combs has not commented on the situation as of this time.
