In a statement, the WWE revealed the unfortunate news about Sullivan’s passing. “A unique and influential figure in sports-entertainment history, Sullivan found success both in the ring and behind the scenes,” the statement reads. “With his penchant for far-out ideas that pushed creative boundaries.”
The WWE also pointed out that as a villain Kevin Sullivan was a “major rival” for the most legendary wrestlers. This includes Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan, and The Road Warriors. “He specialized in leading dangerous factions,” the organization shared. “Which included his wicked Army of Darkness, collegiate bullies The Varsity Club, and the wild Dungeon of Doom, which introduced Big Show to the wrestling world. The onetime “Taskmaster” also became a creative force behind the scenes for WCW.”
The WWE went on to add, “WWE extends its condolences to Sullivan’s family, friends and fans.”
Longtime wrestler and WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H also took to X (formerly Twitter) to speak out. “Kevin Sullivan had one of the most unique minds in the history of our industry,” Triple H wrote. “Pushing creative boundaries and developing some of the most intriguing characters to step into the ring. He had an unwavering passion for what we do.”
A GoFundMe Was Set Up For Kevin Sullivan Shortly Before His Death
Although the cause of death was not revealed, a GoFundMe had been set up for Kevin Sullivan just before his death. His daughter Nicole Sullivan was the organizer.
According to the campaign’s description, it was revealed that the former professional wrestler had been facing a “critical medical emergency and financial crisis” following an accident in Florida.
“He underwent emergency surgery that saved his leg and life but faced severe complications,” the campaign reads. “Including sepsis and encephalitis. This unforeseen catastrophe has placed an immense financial burden on his family, as Kevin has been in and out of consciousness in the ICU, far from home.”
The GoFundMe was set up to cover the cost of continued hospital expenses, skilled nursing care, acute and subacute occupational and physical therapy, recurring medical expenses, and transportation to return home to his family.
In the campaign’s most recent update, Nicole shared that Kevin had started to regain a lot of physical strength. She noted that he did physical and occupational therapy daily. He had the ultimate goal of regaining his independence.
“After speaking with his doctor today, the next step in his recovery will be to get him a night nurse at the facility where he is receiving care,” she wrote. “Because rest is such an integral part of the healing process, a night nurse will ensure that he gets optimal care and comfort in the evening hours when the facility is not at full staff.”
