Ezeh’s mother announced his death in a tragic post. She shared a photo of them together and expressed that he would always be her hero. She believed that heaven would welcome with open arms.
She wrote, “My very own!— My Obi — My #2 — My heart —My father’s heart. My quiet giant! Grand child of an elephant. Journey well to your maker oo. Mother Mary please hold his hands for me. St. Peter open the gate for him as the celestial choirs marshal him in to Jesus. My Obinna Ezeh, you will always be in my heart my beloved son.”
At this time, Ezeh’s family didn’t reveal the details of his tragic passing. During his time at Michigan, Ezeh made a name for himself on the field. He had 293 tackles as well as two interceptions and three sacks in 49 games.
During his college years, the athlete made the Butkus Awards semifinalists list. This happened during his junior year. Sadly, Ezeh never got to pursue his dreams of playing in the NFL. After college, the linebacker failed to make it into the NFL draft. Although the Washington Redskins signed him, they later waived him from the team.
Still, Michigan didn’t forget about their former athlete. They expressed sympathy for his death.
“We are saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine linebacker Obi Ezeh,” the team posted on the platform. “Our prayers go out to his family, friends, and former teammates. May he rest in peace.”
