During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Nicole’s sisters Denise, Dominique, and Tanya opened up about Sydney and Justin’s lives since their mother’s tragic death.
Sydney was eight years old and Justin was five years old when Nicole Brown Simpson was found brutally stabbed to death outside her Brentwood neighborhood condo. Her friend Ron Goldman was found dead near her with multiple stab wounds.
The children were inside the condo sleeping the night of Nicole’s murder. Speaking about the children’s lives right after the infamous murders occurred, Dominique shared that Sydney and Justin avoided a media firestorm.
“Well, fortunately, we lived in a community and kind of created a bubble around the kids,” Dominique explained. “Our neighborhood Safeway, the supermarket, didn’t put up the magazines.”
Dominique then said the supermarket also removed all gossip magazines with Nicole Brown Simpson and O.J.’s faces. This shielded the children from having to see the gossip surrounding Nicole’s murder.
“None of that gossip. None of the hoopla,” Dominique continued.
However, the children weren’t completely removed from all the drama and publicity. Dominique recalled film crews constantly surrounding the home as well as TV helicopters flying overhead. All in the effort to get through the privacy bubble the family created for the children.
“We would eat together, we would do family things,” Dominque stated. She pointed out that the family would also do normal activities to help distract Sydney and Justin. “We did games. We used to play kick the can in the street. I mean, we used to do things like that.”
Nicole Brown Simpson’s Father Kept Track of What Was Being Said in the Media
Meanwhile, Nicole Brown’s sister Denise spoke about how their father, Louis Hezekiel Brown, stayed aware of what was being said about the family. At the same time, Nicole’s ex-husband, O.J. Simpson, was deemed the key suspect and tried for her murder.
However, Nicole’s father kept in the informational loop while shielding his grandchildren from the graphic news. ‘Our televisions were all turned to VCRs except for my father’s,” Denise said. “He wanted to see what was going on the news, but all the other televisions were all VCR so that the kids didn’t see any of it.”
After he was acquitted of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman’s murders, O.J. had full custody of Sydney and Justin. They have consistently remained out of the spotlight since their father’s “Trial of the Century.”
O.J. Simpson passed away at the age of 76 last month.
Fast forwarding to what life is like for Sydney and Justin today, Dominique said they have their own families now.
“They live normal lives,” she then said. “They want to be left alone and they have children of their own.”
Denise went on to plead to the public, “Please leave them alone. They just want to live normal lives and happy lives. They don’t have both parents. It’s hard for them. It’s sad. I don’t know if it’s hard for them, but it’s sad for them. And I think their privacy is important to them.”
