Alluding to her infamous scandal, Monica Lewinsky takes over the Taylor Swift “asylum” trend with a hilarious White House meme.
Since the release of Swift’s track Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me, many Swifties have been posting photos of places or things that have shaped who they are today.
The lyric used for these social media posts is, “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me.”
Using the same lyric clip, Monica Lewinsky took to her account on X (formerly Twitter) and posted it with a picture of the White House. This references her days as an intern at the White House and when she started her infamous affair with then-President Bill Clinton.
After the affair was discovered, Clinton was impeached for lying to the American public about his relations with Lewinksy. She was quickly vilified and victimized by the public for her role in the affair.
Over the years, Monica Lewinsky has spoken out about the bullying she experienced. She’s also spoken publicly about her side of the affair and how she has been a victim of cancel culture before cancel culture was a thing.
Nearly 200,000 X users have liked the post and it has been seen 17 million times. Many praised her for being able to find humor in the situation.
“Your ability to have a sense of humor over what they did to you is pretty inspirational,” one follower wrote.
Another then declared, “Ok… I think those of us who are of a certain age can agree that this wins that particular prompt/meme. Well played, Lewinksy. Well played.
Monica Lewinsky Uses the Bullying She Experienced For Good
After more than 25 years of being vilified for her role in the Bill Clinton affair, Monica Lewinsky opens up about her traumatizing experience.
While speaking to USA TODAY this past fall, Lewinsky admitted that the scandal isn’t going to “clear up like a blemish.”
“It’s sort of something you have to find ways to live with,” Monica Lewinsky explained. However, instead of letting the scandal destroy her life, she has become the face of anti-bullying advocacy.
In her 2023 anti-bullying campaign, Lewinsky’s focus was on “self-bullying.”
“It’s introspective this year,” she said about self-bullying, which is someone’s inner voice telling them negative things. It is also repeating mean things others may have said to them.
“It’s wanting people to recognize that the harshest bully any of us know is ourselves,” Lewinksy continued. “the idea of negative self-talk and our negative voice is not totally novel to everyone, but to reframe it in this way… To be a wake-up call for some people or a gentle reminder for others that this is something we need to be mindful of.”
Lewinksy pointed out that the campaign is part of the “complete transformative process” for her. “Hearing myself say out loud what I say to myself, the silence bully in my head, was devastating. I cried at different points. I was just shocked at how cruel I could be to myself.”
Monica went on to add she wouldn’t be here without her family. “I was very, very lucky that way.”
