During her appearance on David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, the Flowers hitmaker revealed that she’s not “very active” when it comes to social circles within the entertainment industry.
“I am not very active or a very active part of my community of other artists and entertainers and celebrities,” Miley Cyrus explained.
She recalled the 2024 Grammy performance and the lackluster reaction to the event’s audience. “It just doesn’t feel like my people when I’m in that room,” Cyrus pointed out. “But there are certain artists like Beyoncé — who, like us, we’ve known each other for a long time.”
Miley Cyrus further spoke about her 2007 Just Stand Up performance while chatting about Beyoncé. “I was, like, sandwiched between Rihanna and the Queen Bey, and they’re fully grown up, gorgeous, probably similar to my age now. Towering over me, completely stunning.”
She went on to gush about the artists. “I’m like, super small, have acne, have braces on the back of my teeth, and I’m standing next to Mariah Carey, who is dripping in diamonds. And Beyoncé was so kind to me.”
However, when it comes to friendships with fellow artists, Miley Cyrus says it’s all about “the kindness and the consistency.”
“So I’m a part of my community in that way but, again, it’s all quality, not quantity. I’m not very active in that,” she noted.
Miley Cyrus Said She Inherited ‘Narcissism’ From Her Father Billy Ray
Along with discussing her relationships with other celebrities, Miley Cyrus opened up to David Letterman about the toxic trait she inherited from her father, Billy Ray – narcissism.
“Without my dad, I know — I mean, not just literally I wouldn’t be sitting in this chair,” Miley said. “I wouldn’t exist — but I would not, who I am as a person, it wouldn’t exist. Because my dad, as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we’re very similar in our ideas.”
She then said that her mom, Tish, is her hero. The discussion with Letterman is reportedly amid an alleged estrangement between Miley and Billy Ray.
Right before Miley’s interview with Letterman, Billy Ray reportedly filed for divorce from his third wife, Firerose, whom he met on the set of his and Miley’s hit Disney series Hannah Montana. The couple had only been married for seven months before the split.
