Kourtney Kardashian Barker is sharing her “terrifying” experience with the emergency surgery she needed during her last pregnancy.
In the season 5 premiere of The Kardashians, Kourtney shared her experience of undergoing emergency fetal surgery last summer before the birth of her son, Rocky Thirteen. She recounted having a scan at home just as her husband, Travis Barker, was preparing to leave for his Blink-182 tour.
“The doctor who will come to the house to do the scan is a high-risk doctor, really detailed and thorough at looking for everything,” Kourtney recalled. “And something caught his eye where he wanted me to see a couple of specialists and I had to go in for fetal surgery where they do surgery on the baby, which was terrifying.”
Kourtney Kardashian Barker recalls being at home the night before the surgery, describing it as “stressful.” Meanwhile, Travis was out of the country but returned home just in time for the procedure.
“The timing of it was miraculous. That like saved everything,” Kourtney explained. “I just feel so grateful that, you know, how everything played out and for the doctors that really helped make the best decisions that really saved our baby.”
Kourtney remembers the doctor emphasizing how significant the experience was for the couple. “[The] doctor was like, ‘That was a trauma and I want you guys to be able to take a second and know that that was really traumatic.’”

However, Kourtney later said she was an old pro when it comes to extreme emergencies.
“There’s some superpower that I have that in emergency situations, I get really calm. And then right when we left I was like, ‘Okay, I could take a deep breath. I could cry. I could get it out,’ ” Kourtney revealed in a confessional segment.
Kardashian Barker later expressed her satisfaction with sharing her pregancy surgery experience on social media, hoping that others might benefit from her story.
“They were so grateful that I posted something about it because they said so many people don’t feel comfortable, even telling their friend or their family members because they’re like, ‘Did they do something wrong or different things?’ ” Kourtney explained.
Kourtney admits that it did enter her mind that her baby’s health problems were due to her having the child well into her forties.
“But my doctor’s like, ‘There’s nothing that you did wrong, it’s not age-related,” she recalled. “It’s like just a super rare thing that happened.’ But then I was like, after this happened, I was like God’s got this. We’re good. This is a miracle and I’m gonna be super positive.”
