Ready to share some exciting news, Katie Couric announced she’s a grandmother with a series of snapshots featuring her newborn grandson.
In the sweet post on Instagram, Couric revealed that her eldest daughter Ellie Monahan gave birth to her first child, a boy, with her husband Dobrosky. The couple named the sweet infant John Albert.
“John Albert Dobrosky was born on his due date, Saturday, March 23rd at 8:23 am, just shy of seven pounds,” Katie Couric shared. “He will be called Jay in honor of his maternal grandfather. Albert is after Mark’s paternal grandfather.”
Couric further revealed that Ellie and Mark are “over the moon” excited for their son. “I am thrilled to have my first grandchild, [her younger daughter Caroline Monahan] can’t wait to be a cool Aunt, and [her husband John] Molner is enjoying hanging out cigars. We feel so blessed.”
Fans quickly took to the Instagram post to congratulate Katie Couric for the exciting new addition to the family. “Lucky Jay! He’s got great parents and lots of love from so many,” one fan wrote.
Another fan added, “Congratulations Katie. He is beautiful. And I love how he is looking up at Ellie. Sweet family of 3.”
Katie Couric Shares More Details About the Day She Became a Grandmother
In a post on her self-titled website, Katie Couric opened up about the exciting moments leading up to the birth of her grandson, John Albert.
“On Saturday at 8:23 a.m., I officially became a grandmother,” Couric gushed. “My son-in-law Mark suggested Molner, Carrie, and I get to the hospital at 8:30 AM. But it took Ellie less than an hour to push out the baby. (Special thanks to everyone at St. John’s hospital!) By the time we got outside the maternity wing, Mark had sent us a text saying, “IT’S A BOY!” They were getting Ellie ready for visitors and we sat in the waiting area like kids on Christmas morning.”
After what felt like an eternity, Katie Couric and the rest of the family were able to enter the room to meet the newborn. “Ellie looked exhausted but beautiful. And Mark was sitting on a chair with his shirt off so he could have skin-to-skin contact with his new son, John Albert Dobrosky. Who came in weighing 6 pounds 15 ounces and was 19-and-a-half inches long.”
Couric went on to add that witnessing your baby having a baby is wild. “Ellie had an easy pregnancy and took good care of herself. I know she’s going to be a wonderful mother, and I know Mark will be a parent who is an equal partner. Jay was like that. It makes all the difference in the world.”
