Another neighbor familiar with the situation told The Independent that the feud started after James joined a group objecting to a planning application for a dwelling that was deemed an “eyesore.”
The neighbor, who has been identified as 65-year-old David Alderton, is also claimed to have trespassed on James’ property as well. The home is located just a few miles from Bucklebury, where Kate Middleton grew up. Both James and Kate’s other sibling, Pippa, lives in Bucklebury as well.
According to The Independent, Alderton runs a motorcycle dealership. He lives in a bungalow directly across the street from James’ farm. After the feud started, Alderton allegedly put up posters in nearby villages attacking the Middleton family.
The Princess of Wales’ brother notably had asked the neighbor that they only communicate by email or the council. However, Alderton’s harassment towards James and his family has continued.
“Police were contacted shortly after my son was born,” James told The Independent. “As we became increasingly concerned byt he activities surrounding a neighbor.”
Kate Middleton’s younger brother then said the West Berkshire Council became involved in the situation when Alderton complained about the nose from tractors and animals at the farm. He also had a “series” of other complaints towards James and his family.
James pointed out that the council has found no reason to investigate any of Alderton’s “disingenuous complaints.”
Kate Middleton’s Brother Says His Hostile Neighbor Has a ‘History of Disputes’ Within the Village
Noting that conflict isn’t new for Alderton, Kate Middleton’s brother James said his neighbor has a “history of disputes” within the village.
“In 2017, he took legal action against the parish council and a parishioner,” James pointed out. “And [he] intimidated locals for objecting to a series of planning applications, all of which were refused.”
Alderton previously spoke to the Daily Mail about his conflict with the Middletons. “This month we have further been subjected to the unwelcome toxic and noxious ingress of fumes within our home,” he said in 2023. “From the clearly unsuitable machinery [James] uses.”
Alderton then spoke about his key issues with Kate Middleton’s brother. “It’s a matter of public record that complaints have been made to the local council but nothing has been done.”
“There are three barns full of old farmyard machinery, no good to anyone, and it’s all going on 50ft from our front door. It’s ancient, noisy, dirty, smelly machiner, Old Massey Fergusons, an old threshing machine wood chipping machines, you name it.”
Alderton also stated, “It’s a farm so I suppose [James] thinks he feels justified in having farm machinery even if it’s derelict. But he has a duty of care to his neighbors and the environment – it should not impact on people nearby.”
