Justin Timberlake wanted to stage a career comeback. However, it turned out to be less enthusiastic than the singer expected. The singer was hyped to be back on stage, but audiences apparently didn’t feel the same.
Industry insiders examined exactly what happened with Timberlake and his tour. They believed that the controversy around Britney Spears’ memoir played a role. However, they also believe that Timberlake waited too long between albums.
“A six-year break from your mid-thirties to your early forties is a really long time [for an artist],” music journalist Touré of TheGrio told NewsNation. “Most of [Timberlake’s] fans have aged out of caring about him. It’s like the old saying goes, ‘You don’t retire – the audience retires you.’”
Everything I Thought I was debuted at just No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100. It fell off the Billboard Hot 200 in just a month. Meanwhile, it’s not just album sales. The singer is also struggling to sell out arenas. There’s plenty of tickets for his concerts still available, according to the outlet.
Justin Timberlake Controversy Began With Britney Spears
Timberlake canceled his June 8th show in Columbia, South Carolina without giving a reason. Ticketmaster just says, “Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event.”
It’s hard not to say that Spears’ memoir played a role in Timberlake’s hard times. The two were together for three years. However, things ultimately went sour when Timberlake allegedly cheated and suggested the singer get an abortion. He also reportedly broke up with Spears, via text, according to the singer.
“I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if that was the right decision,” Spears wrote. “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”
Spears later apologized for the book and the controversy, saying, “I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry.”
However, Timberlake responded by saying t he’d “like to take this opportunity to apologize — to absolutely f—ing nobody” during a concert. In a response, Spears said, “Someone told me someone was talking s*** about me on the streets!!! Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time ??? I’m not sorry !!!”
