Jon Bon Jovi is opening up about the early days of his marriage to Dorothea Hurley.
During his appearance on ABC’s Halfway There special, the music icon spoke about how he got “away with murder” during the early days of his marriage. He further joked by stating there “weren’t 100 girls in [his] life” at the time.
“I’m a rock ’n’ roll star, I’m not a saint,” he declared. “I’m Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good. But if you think I was ever going to jeopardize… anything for believing the narcissist in me was real? What a stupid thing to do. What kind of excesses does a man need that’s going to fuel that fire? It’s just not worth it.”
The singer and songwriter also praised his wife for not being afraid to call him over the years. “She’s also there when I fall,” he continued. ‘And I’m there for her when she falls. No matter where I went in my career, the ups or the downs, we went there together.”
Although they met and fell in love during their high school days, Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley briefly broke up in 1985. However, a couple reconciled and got married in Las Vegas on April 29, 1989. They share four children, one daughter, and three sons.
The musician went on to give a young couple some marriage advice by stating, “Every day is a challenge. And a change but if you’re growing together, hopefully things will work out.”
Jon Bon Jovi Admitted He and Dorothea Hurley Wouldn’t Have Been Able to Celebrate Their Latest Milestone Without Her ‘Tolerance’
Earlier this month, Jon Bon Jovi admitted that if it wasn’t for Dorothea Hurley’s tolerance, the couple wouldn’t be where they are today.
“These are all the wonderful cliches of rock stardom,” he explained to The Independent. “it’s about never lying about having been a saint, but not being a fool enough to [mess] up the home life, either.”
Jon Bon Jovi then explained the marriage lasted for as long as it has because of a “mutual admiration society” and being lucky enough to have grown up together.
Along with talking about his marriage, Bon Jovi spoke about his son Jake and his engagement to Strange Things star Millie Brown.
“They are two young people that are pursuing a dream together,” the rocker stated. “So we’re supportive of it, because our hope for them – and Millie’s parents’ hope for them, because Bob and Kelly Brown, too, met when they were very young – is that the kids will grow together.”
Bon Jovi added, “Anything after that is out of all four of us as parents’ control, but they are good kids. They’ll figure it out.”
