Who doesn’t love a good murder mystery?
Filmmaker Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 3 may be coming sooner than we think!
Since making it’s debut in 2019, Knives Out has swept fans off their feet. After receiving a 97% fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes, and raking in a solid $312 million at box office, it’s easy to say that the film has made quite an impact. Fans have been eagerly awaiting its return following: Knives Out: Glass Onion.
The bidding war for the sequels blazed like a wildfire, and Netflix swooped in with a jaw-dropping $450 million check. In response, Johnson began crafting “Glass Onion” in 2022, which grossed roughly $311 million at box office. This elevated the film to the position of the second-highest grossing original movie of that year, independent of any pre-existing intellectual property.

In a December 2022 interview with Insider, Johnson has already shared that the third film is gonna be “an-all American adventure.”
“I want it to be in America. There’s a lot of tempting things of going to Paris or the Alps, but I feel it’s really important that these are American movies,” explains Johnson. “Even with ‘Glass Onion,’ it’s set overseas but it’s a group of Americans who are trapped on an island together, so bringing it back to somewhere a little closer to home I think could be a good thing for the next one.“

After the Writers Guild strike, Johnson declares he’s back in the game and eager to plunge into the enigmatic world of Knives Out 3.
While fans are brimming with anticipation, Johnson and Daniel Craig, the actor behind the iconic Detective Benoit Blanc, have maintained an air of secrecy surrounding the next group of potential suspects. At least fans can rest easy that their favorite detective is in fact making a comeback.
In an interview with Variety in October 2022, Johnson went on to say:
“If each one of these can really be what Agatha Christie did, if it can be not just in a totally new location and a new cast, but also trying something exciting, I’ll keep doing it as long as Daniel and I are having a good time. I’ll keep making these as long as they let me.”
The release date remains a significant question mark, yet one thing is certain – our beloved murder mystery will soon be captivating us once more.
