During an interview with TODAY, Anderson stated that things between him and the former convict, whom he married in 2022 during a jailhouse ceremony, were going well following her release from prison at the end of 2023.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard notably served eight of her 10-year sentence for her involvement in the brutal murder of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard in 2015.
Before her mother’s infamous death, Gypsy Rose was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. She had been forced to use a wheelchair and oxygen tank for the majority of her early years. Her mother also put her through treatment for various conditions, including cancer and muscular dystrophy.
However, within a few months after she was released, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was done with her marriage, and Anderson claims he was blindsided with how fast everything happened.
“It was like, she was here one day, and the next she was gone,” Anderson explained. “She wanted to be married, and now she doesn’t. It’s just crazy how it all happened like that.”
Despite the breakup, Anderson says he’ll always love his ex. “Me and her have always had love towards each other and that has never changed — love was never our problem,” Anderson pointed out.
“We are going through a divorce and it’s hard… it’s hard on both of us. I do know that.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Ex Declares In Lifetime Docuseries Living With Her Was ‘Definitely Different’
During the first episode of the Lifetime docuseries Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up, Ryan Scott Anderson reflected on spending his first night with Gypsy Rose Blanchard when she left prison.
“Well, you know, I’ve known her for a long time… like, we’ve been talking for years. May [was] four years that we’ve known each other,” Anderson explained. “Living with Gypsy is different than talking to her on the phone — that’s definitely different. But what you see is what you get with Gypsy.”
Anderson then said, “We were learning how to be in this world and being filmed the whole time. It was definitely a culture shock.”
Reflecting on the moments that had stood out with Gypsy Rose Blanchard as a free woman was when she asked him how to text someone back on her iPhone.
“Those are some of the things that I love, those moments between me and her,” he added.
“She’s trying to figure out her phone and I’m an Android guy. I got her an iPhone and so sometimes, she’d ask some questions I wouldn’t know how to answer. I cherish moments like that, where she didn’t know how to do something and I had to show her how.”
