Blanchard made various calls to her family and her ex, Ryan Anderson, while serving time for murdering her mother.
“I want to directly address some of the old prison phone calls that have recently been shared online,” she wrote, per TMZ. “In those conversations, I used racist language and made cruel, disrespectful comments, including about people I love, my sister Mia and her fiancé Andre. What I said was wrong.”
Blanchard further stated that the words were racist, and she took full responsibility for saying them. She also noted there was no excuse for that language or the pain it caused.
“To the Black community, I’m sorry for using words that are hateful and demeaning,” she continued. “I understand the anger and disappointment those words carry.”
Blanchard then addressed Mia and her fiancé by writing, “I’m especially sorry. You didn’t deserve that then, and you don’t deserve the hurt now. Since coming home, being able to have a relationship with you both has meant so much, and it’s heartbreaking that my own words have caused this pain and damaged that trust.”
She also said that she has apologized privately and understands that forgiveness or reconciliation is not something she’s owed.
“I respect whatever boundaries you need and accept that healing happens on your timelines, not mine,” Blanchard pointed out. “I also want to be honest about where I stand today.”
She further shared that she’s not asking anyone to accept her apology or forgive her. “I wanted to make this statement, not because these calls became public,” Blanchard noted. “But because I should never have spoken the words in the first place.”
Blanchard and Her Ex Were Heard Laughing and Using Racist Slurs
In one of the clips of the phone calls, Blanchard and Anderson were heard laughing and making racist remarks towards Mia while she was dating Andre.
The duo was also heard mocking Mia for her history of interracial relationships.
In a separate clip, Blanchard admitted she was racist but said she wouldn’t tell her sister that.
