In a series of TikTok videos, a woman named Marisa reflected on her time at Solid Rock. She shared that she and her then-fiancé started attending the church in 2019 and grew to love the community. She decided she wanted to be part of the church’s worship team and was directed to speak to Mica about the group.
Marisa met with Mica and they had a jam session where she opened up to the pastor’s wife about her relationship. She told Mica that she and her fiance were living together.

Knowing and understanding that Mica had to tell her husband about the living situation, Marisa said she met with Mica and John-Paul Miller to discuss her joining the worship team. However, John-Paul was more focused on her “living in sin” with her then-fiancé.
“Well, we do have a problem here,” Marisa recalled John-Paul telling her. “You and your fiancé are living together unwed.”
Acknowledging the facts, Marisa continued to listen to John-Paul Miller berate her about her living situation. She told him that she and her then-fiancé had every intention of getting married and she believed they were going to get married the next summer.
John-Paul Miller Scolded Marisa for ‘Living in Sin’
The remark didn’t sit too well with John-Paul Miller, as the Solid Rock Church pastor continued to grill Marisa about why she wanted to wait over a year to get married. “He even asked, ‘Why wait so long? Why wait a year?’ [I said] we have things to plan, there’s preparation.”
He cut her off by demanding she tell him why she and her then-fiancé were waiting so long to get married. “And you’re living together?” he asked her. “This is… Marisa, this is living in sin. We can’t be doing this.”
“I’m like, ‘Ok, calm down guy,’” Marisa remembered. “He was like, ‘You guys can’t live separately until you get married?’ I’m like, ‘Do you know the rent in Myrtle Beach?’ I’m a teacher, ok? Like, please. Why are you coming at me so hard?”
John-Paul Miller then gave her the bottom line, that she wouldn’t be singing on stage in front of the Solid Rock congregation as she’s living in sin.
When asked if she could be part of the “clapping corner” or any other role at Solid Creek, John-Paul Miller said no. His reason is that she was living with her fiance Marisa pointed out that during the entire meeting, Mica didn’t speak and she looked apologetic.
“You need to get that straightened out,” she recalled his words. He also handed her a CD resource and told her to get help. “Stop living in sin. Stop living together.
John-Paul Miller Preaches a Sermon to the Congregation About Marisa
Marisa said she was planning to “stick it out” and stay at the church. But then John-Paul Miller dedicated an entire sermon about her living situation. She decided to leave the church not long after.
Marisa also shared clips of Miller’s sermon as he pointed out his faults in front of the congregation. He would also target members through his sermons.
“I will say this as well,” Marisa said. “One thing that Mica did say to me that I will never forget when her and I were talking. She said, ‘Marisa, How old are you?’ And [I said same age as her, 25] both 94 babies. She said, ‘I’m 25 years old. I’m a quarter of a way done with my life. Don’t you plan to live to be 100? I have so much left to do. I’ve only gotten started.’”
Marisa pointed out the comment stuck with her for years. “Justice for Mica,” she added.
Mica Miller’s body was discovered at the Lumber River State Park on April 27. She was 30 years old. Her family is demanding an investigation after claiming the marriage between her and John-Paul Miller started to grow sour. Her death was recently ruled as suicide.
John-Paul Miller has since been removed as pastor at Solid Rock.
