The legendary wrestling superstar, born Terry Gene Bollea, died at the age of 71 in his Clearwater home in Florida. On July 24, he died in his home following a cardiac arrest. Numerous outlets rushed to report on his death.
Paramedics responded to a medical emergency reported at his home. When they got there, they rushed Hulk Hogan to the Morton Plant Hospital. Despite the paramedic’s best efforts, he was pronounced dead at 11:17 a.m.
A subsequent medical examiner’s report officially listed the cause of death as acute myocardial infarction. In other words, a heart attack. Although police said there was no evidence of foul play, his family aren’t so sure.
Hulk Hogan’s Family Suspect Medical Negligence Following Neck Surgery
Hogan had undergone a major neck surgery on 14 May 2025, described as a four-level cervical fusion. According to friends and close associates, his health deteriorated rapidly thereafter. He reportedly avoided visitors to prevent infection, and was described as weak and vulnerable.
In addition to musculoskeletal problems common for wrestlers, public records show Hogan had been treated for chronic lymphocytic leukemia and atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), both conditions likely contributing to his cardiac risk.
In recent weeks, controversy erupted after fellow wrestling legend Ric Flair claimed Hogan’s death resulted from “street drugs,” alleging that, cut off from pain-killer prescriptions after his surgery, Hogan resorted to illicit substances.
Hogan’s widow, Sky Daily, swiftly rejected the claim, telling TMZ that his claim “didn’t happen at all.” As public backlash grew, Flair softened his bold claim.
Meanwhile, law enforcement says an investigation into Hogan’s death remains open. Not as a criminal case, however, but as a review of his medical care in the months before his passing. Investigators continue to request records and interview medical providers.
For now, Hogan’s death has been ruled natural causes. But his family continue to look into addressing the foul play they believe led to his passing.
