While speaking to Fox News’ Jesse Watters, the late Turning Point USA founder’s wife described the moment she saw his body at the hospital.
“When we walked into the room, he had this smirk on his face,” Erika emotionally shared. “That smirk, that smirk to me is that look of, ‘You thought you could stop what I’ve built. You thought you could end this vision, this movement, this revival. You thought you could do that by murdering me. You got my body; you didn’t get my soul.'”
While speaking to Utah Valley University students, Charlie Kirk was struck in the neck by a single bullet. He had been on the campus as the first stop of his “America Comeback” Tour.
Kirk was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. However, President Trump made the announcement a short time later that Kirk had succumbed to his injury.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sept. 10. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.”
The suspect, Utah resident Tyler Robinson, was turned over to law enforcement a little more than 24 hours after the shooting.
Two days after Charlie Kirk passed away, his wife Erika made her first public statement.
“Charlie always said that when he was gone, he wanted to be remembered for his courage and for his faith,” she said. “Most of all, Charlie loved his children, and he loved me with all of his heart.”
Charlie Kirk’s Wife Erika Says The Couple’s Daughter Continues to Ask ‘Where’s Daddy?’
Continuing to open up about her family’s grieving process, Erika says her and Charlie’s daughter asks where her father is.
“Yes, my daughter continues to ask, but it’s really sweet, because I keep explaining to her a few things,” she said. “I said if ever you want to talk to daddy, you just look up to the sky and start talking to him. He can hear you. It’s always good. And I told her, I said, you know, ‘Daddy, daddy is in heaven.’ She goes, ‘Do you think I could go sometime?’ I said, ‘Baby, we will all go one day. We will all go one day.”
Despite her husband’s assassination, Erika said she refuses to live in fear. “I’m not afraid, Charlie wasn’t afraid either. We never lived in fear. If we did, we wouldn’t get anything done.”
Erika is to receive the first-ever Charlie Kirk Legacy Award at the 7th annual Fox Nation Patriot Awards. The event is taking place at The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Brookville, New York.
Charlie and Erika Kirk met in 2018 and got married in 2023. They share two children.
