The heated exchange between the rapper and her followers occurred during an Instagram Live. The comments started after she shared a close-up image of her hair for her forthcoming album cover through her Instagram account.
The post also features a clip of her new single Masc, which will be released on Friday, April 5.
“I’m seeing a pattern,” Doja Cat stated, per Hollywood Unlocked. “I’m seeing a consistent pattern in my comment sections of people saying is. my hair pubic hair, is it carpet or is it sheep’s wool. And it’s never ever questions… Some people are being like, that’s what it is.”
The musician continued the discussion by stating people are comparing her hair to “sheep and pubes and carpet and popcorn and s— like that.”
“We gotta move forward,” Doja Cat declared. “Let’s move forward. Let’s grow. I can’t tell you what to do. I’m not your f—ing parents. I don’t wanna say too much.”
Along with the release of Masc, Doja Cat will be headlining Coachella later this month. She is also going to be heading to her first headlining arena tour in the UK and Europe this spring.
Doja Cat Previously Addressed the Claim That She ‘Hates Her Fans’
The spat with Instagram followers occurred just a few months after Doja Cat addressed the claims that she “hates” her fans.
Billboard reports that during a Dec. 2023 interview with Apple Music, the rapper admitted to disliking her supporters greatly.
“One thing I do wanna set straight is, you’ll never see a direct quote of me saying I hate my fans,” she said. “Not once. But it’s a really big misquoted thing.”
Doja Cat then explained that everyone keeps saying she hates her fans, but she’s never directly said that. “But I do like to play with that as a meme,” she continued. “I know that people who get it, get it. And I’m fine with that. I don’t have to explain my sense of humor and explain comedy to anyone.”
The rapper’s apparent distain of her fans became a top of discussion in July 2023, when she went off on fans using her government name as their Threads screen name. They also began using the word “Kittenz” as her fandom name.
“If you call yourself a ‘Kitten’ or f—ing ‘Kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job,” she declared. “And help your parents with the house.”
Meta confirmed to Billboard that Doja Cat lost approximately 237,758 followers the weekend she made the harsh comment.
