The Met Gala is one of the entertainment industry’s biggest events of the year. Athletes, artists, and other tastemakers gather in New York City dressed to impress. The theme for this year’s event was “A Garden in Time.” While most of the celebs stayed on track with the team, that wasn’t the case for everybody.
Enter famed singer Doja Cat. She took a rather unorthodox wardrobe approach. Doja showed up on the star-studded red carpet wearing two towels… and nothing else.

Doja Dons Scantily Clad Met Gala Look
“Doja Cat literally showed up at last year’s Met Gala dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, so yes: We had high expectations for her 2024 Met Gala look,” Cosmopolitan wrote.
“Before we get into it, the theme this year is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and the dress code is “The Garden of Time.” Doja Cat’s interpretation? A bath towel paired with some diamonds.”
Artist Gets Candid on Fashion Choices
Doja Cat has become somewhat of a fashion icon. She has donned several iconic looks including wearing a chair as a hat at the MTV Video Music Awards and rocking 30,000 crimson Swarovski crystals during Paris Fashion Week.
And if you think she cares about the public reception of her outfits, you are wrong. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Doja Cat says that her sense of fashion is not meant to cater to the likes of others.
“My theory is that if someone has never met me in real life, then, subconsciously, I’m not real to them. So when people become engaged with someone they don’t even know on the internet, they kind of take ownership over that person,” she said.
“They think that person belongs to them in some sense. And when that person changes drastically, there is a shock response that is almost uncontrollable. I’ve accepted that that’s what happens. So I put my wigs on and take them off. I shave my head or my eyebrows.”
She also notes that she is going in a “darker direction,” when it comes to her fashion these days.
“[I’m] going in a darker direction when it comes to visuals and fashion,” she added. “I have a lot of pent-up feelings and anger, and I want to express it with beauty. I’ve been playing with a lot of prosthetics lately.”
