Diagnosed with MS in 2021, the Dead to Me star has been open about her journey battling this autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system.
In fact, she recently started a podcast called MeSsy, where she and co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler talk about their struggles with MS. Both actresses have leaned on each other through their ongoing battle with this devastating disease.
Christina Applegate Discusses Current MS Relapse
On this week’s episode of MeSsy, “The Power of Now,” Applegate spoke candidly about her relapse — which was “pretty bad.”
Thankfully, a rep confirmed to People that this particular podcast episode was recorded “months ago,” meaning Applegate is now out of her relapse.
In the episode, Applegate went on to say that she couldn’t walk to the bathroom without feeling like she was going to fall over due to the intense pain in her legs and “insane tingling.”
She also added that she hadn’t slept for 24 hours because her right eye was “shifting” every time she closed her eyes for rest. Applegate was so concerned that she reached out to her medical team, but unfortunately, she hadn’t heard back.
“My legs have never been this bad, so I don’t know what’s going on,” she said. “Like, no energy, legs are just done … can’t get circulation, I can’t get them to stop hurting.”
Due to all of her symptoms, Applegate could not shower for over three weeks. This followed immediately what she deemed a “win vacation,” after which she came home and fell into a “deep depression.”
“I need to buy stock in Cottonelle because I haven’t taken a shower in three weeks,” she said on her podcast. “Because I can’t stand in my shower. There’s no f—king way that I can stand in my shower.”
Sigler then asked whether she could sit on her shower bench, to which Applegate responded, “I have such a small bench … I slip right off of it.”
“I’ve been Cottonelle-ing my body,” she continued. “I don’t know if it’s doing the job so much. I smell so bad, and it’s awful. Thank God I’m always alone,” she laughed.
