The gossip industry seems to greatly enjoy pairing Brad Pitt up with every single woman he comes within five feet of, whether that woman is his ex-wife or someone he may not have even met. Recently, the rumor mill has been churning out a number of absurd stories pairing Pitt with Arrested Development star Alia Shawkat after the two were spotted in public together on multiple occasions. Here are some of the more ridiculous rumors about the two that Gossip Cop has busted recently.

Back in November, Star ran a cover story claiming that Brad Pitt had “moved on” from ex-wives Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie by getting together with Alia Shawkat. A Pitt rep shut down that rumor on the record for Gossip Cop. Later that same week, however, the tabloid alleged that Aniston was in tears after Pitt had “once again broken her heart” by dating Shawkat. Of course, nothing about this rumor was true. Pitt and Aniston have not been romantically involved for a good fifteen years, and, as the spokesperson confirmed for us, Pitt and Shawkat are just friends.
Despite that, the very next day Gossip Cop debunked a bogus rumor from Life & Style that Pitt was worried about how Shawkat would “handle the attention that comes from dating him.” Again, Pitt has nothing to worry about because the two are not dating. As Gossip Cop pointed out, no reputable celebrity news outlet reported the two were together.
The following week Star picked up the baton and ran with it once again, claiming that things were starting to “get serious” between Brad Pitt and Alia Shawkat, once again citing the times they’d been seen in public together, including a Kanye West concert and an art exhibit. Gossip Cop shut down that bogus claim by pointing out that they were joined by a group of other friends. Additionally, reliable outlets like People and Entertainment Tonight reported that the two were just platonic friends.
Despite all this evidence, the tabloids are insatiable. Within a few days, the notoriously bogus National Enquirer published an article claiming that Angelina Jolie was “slamming” Pitt’s “new babe,” Shawkat. This story, of course, was just as phony as the ones that came before it. The addition of the Enquirer’s favorite supposed bad girl, Jolie, certainly adds a little variety to the mix but doesn’t make it any less false.
A week after that, Life & Style picked up where the Enquirer left off and claimed that Jolie was furious over Pitt introducing Alia Shawkat to their children. An unnamed “source” alleged that Jolie was even threatening to keep her kids from seeing Pitt if he let them see Shawkat. Once again, this story was utterly absurd. Brad Pitt had even shut down false dating rumors about himself in an interview earlier that week with the New York Times. “I don’t know how many women they’ve said I’ve been dating the last two or three years, and none of it’s true,” he said. If only the tabloids would pick up a real newspaper once in a while.
