Myers, who has been out of the public eye for about a year, made a rare appearance at Nicole Kidman’s AFI Life Achievement Award Gala. This prestigious event was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 28.
The SNL alum, sporting a fresh silver buzzcut, brought energy to the red carpet and took time to snap photos with fans outside the event. AFI’s X account (formerly Twitter) posted footage of Mike Myers sporting his silver locks on the red carpet.
Mike Myers last graced screens in 2022, taking lead roles in the Netflix sitcom The Pentaverate and David O. Russell’s critically panned Amsterdam.
During the AFI ceremony honoring Australian icon Kidman, Myers lampooned his infrequent public appearances by donning a mask as he stepped onto the stage.
Nicole Kidman was honored for her impactful career in film and art, earning recognition from peers and scholars. Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts, and Morgan Freeman celebrated her achievements, with Meryl Streep presenting the honor.
Fans React to Mike Myers Sporting a Silver Buzz Cut
Meanwhile, fans were (sigh) buzzing about Myer’s zaddy-style silver hair. “He’s been looksmaxing his jaw,” one fan wrote on X.
“He can play Lorne Michaels for real now,” another fan added, noting Mike’s resemblance to the longtime SNL producer. A third fan joked that Myers is debuting a zany new alter ego. “Mike Myers unveils new character Silvermember,” they quipped.
Mike Myers Weighs in on a Possible Fourth ‘Austin Powers’ Film
Myers also responded to speculation regarding his intentions to create a belated fourth installment of the Austin Powers series. “I cannot confirm or deny the existence or non-existence of such a project,” the Canadian comedian told Entertainment Tonight.
However, the actor admitted to being randy about the possibility of more adventures as Powers. “That’s right. I hinted at that possibility earlier. And I’ve generally avoided spilling the beans about specific plans,” he added.
Myers, a father of three, tied the knot with Kelly Tisdale in 2010. He last portrayed the iconic role of Austin Powers in the 2002 movie, Austin Powers in Goldmember.
This film, along with the Shrek series, established him as one of Hollywood’s most lucrative actors. In recent interviews, he’s hinted that a fourth Austin Powers outing would be focused on the series’ villain, Dr. Evil.
