Over the last few months, there were rumors that Nelly and Ashanti were expecting their first child together. On April 17, the famed singer confirmed the rumors in an Instagram post. She used a lyric from one of her biggest songs, “Baby,” to make the announcement.
“Baby, Baby, Baby,” She captioned the Instagram post.
This will be Ashanti’s first child and Nelly’s fifth.
Ashanti Announces Engagement to Nelly
But that is not the only big news for the Celebrity couple. Ashanti also confirmed to ESSENCE Magazine that the couple is engaged. Referring to the “Country Grammar,” rapper as her “fiancé”
“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,” she said.
“Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
The two stars were an “it” couple in the early 2000s but eventually split up. But the two stars rekindled when rapper Fat Joe featured Nelly during his Verzuz performance in 2020. Following their rekindling Nelly said their break was a period of both artists just figuring things out.
“I think we both were pretty much doing what we do, but sometimes being separate you understand one another more,” he said of their long break.
“You be like, ‘Yo, let me see exactly what they see.’ You know, because we all can be defensive sometimes in our own relationships. We know we are wrong but we going to stand on it. But we are all a victim to that.”
Fat Joe Makes Hefty Request
As for the matchmaker Fat Joe, he must be some kind of sorcerer. After the two got back together, the rap star requested a hefty payback. A percentage of their child to be.
“So the other day Ashanti FaceTimes me with Nelly,” he said during an Instagram Live session on January 20.
“I immediately tell them I need 10 percent of this kid because if it wasn’t for Verzuz when I brought Nelly out, me against Ja Rule, that’s when they saw each other, and that energy connected again.”
