While appearing in the Freeform docuseries Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, the Man From U.N.C.L.E. star’s ex revealed she fell victim to the “Cayman Curse,” which has been deemed responsible for breakups after couples move to Grand Cayman.
“I went through a very public divorce,” Chambers stated. “It was riddled with scandal, and stores were coming out each day, horrific articles, and I was learning about them as it happened.”
The Food Network host continued to say that the life she and Armie Hammer planned for years basically shattered. “That was a really painful period of time,” she admitted. “Doing that on a more public platform, it was absolute hell and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.”
Chambers stated she’s finally ready to have a “fresh start” following the traumatic experiences she went through during the divorce.
Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers announced their separation in July 2020. Six months after the announcement, Hammer was accused of abusing multiple women. One of the women claimed that she was so emotionally abused by Hammer during their relationship, that she was hospitalized for post-traumatic stress.
After the accusations started, Hammer’s legal team released a statement to Page Six. “These assertions about Mr. Hammer are patently untrue. Any interaction with this person, or any partner of his, were completely consensual in that they were fully discussed, agreed upon, and mutually participatory.”
The divorce between Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers was finalized in June 2023. The former couple shares two children.
Armie Hammer Broke His Silence About the Abuse Allegations Last Fall
In Fall 2023, Armie Hammer opened up to Air Mail about the allegations made about him in January 2021. Although he claimed all his sexual encounters were consensual, he admitted to being emotionally abusive. He also said that “the power dynamics” were off in his relationships with women in their mid-20s.
As he continued to speak to the media outlet, Hammer revealed that he was sexually abused by a youth pastor for nearly a year when he was 13. Although his parents were aware of the situation, they dismissed the situation.
“What that did for me was it introduced sexuality into my life in a way that it was completely out of my control,” Armie Hammer explained.
The actor pointed out that the sexual abuse and feeling powerless as a child made his sexual interests be about being in control. “Because being out of control was very dangerous for me,” he continued. “And very uncomfortable.”
However, Armie Hammer denied he was ever sexually violent towards others.
