American Idol fans put on their tin foil hats, claiming the show is rigged after the selection of the final three contestants of the season.
Following the elimination of Emmy Russell and Triston Harper in Sunday’s live Disney Night show, Jack Blocker, Will Moseley, and Abi Carter have emerged as the Top 3 contestants advancing to next week’s finale.
AI fans eagerly await the finale, though some believe the contest favors finalist Jack Blocker. This skepticism arose after he received initial rejections from judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, only for Luke Bryan and the crew to overturn the decision.
“Am I the only one who feels that everything was always rigged for Jack to win,” one fan questioned on X (formerly Twitter). “They gave him a no in auditions,” they continued. “The camera men and others said no bring him back and then he goes on to win the whole thing to finish the story,” they added.
“JACK BLOCKERS gonna win. If an underdog gets this far they usually win….. this show is a joke,” a second fan agreed.
Some ‘American Idol’ Fans Would Have Cried ‘Rigged’ No Matter Who Was Cut
However, some fans seemed to feel if Emmy Russell made the cut, all signs would point towards a fix being in. Many AI fans felt that the hit-or-miss granddaughter of the legendary Loretta Lynn was being carried by her Country Music pedigree.
“She has the country music community behind her, out of love for Loretta Lynn. They did the same for Blake Shelton on the Voice, year after year. There’s no stopping them,” one fan wrote of Emma.
“It’s all these grandmas voting that love Loretta Lynn,” a second fan agreed. “We need more people to vote for everyone else BUT Emmy.”
This contingent of American Idol fans seemed to think the show cutting Emma meant the show wasn’t rigged, after all.
“Emmy did not make the top 3 and I am overjoyed!”, one fan gushed. “They finally got it right tonight,” another fan agreed.
However, there’s simply no pleasing everyone. After all, art is subjective. “I can tell that it was rigged. Because the one person who I wanted in the finale didn’t make it to the finale. That was Triston Harper,” a spurned American Idol viewer wrote.
A totally not rigged three-hour season finale of American Idol drops on ABC this Sunday at 8 pm ET.
