A tabloid report about Tom Cruise and Cher‘s “rekindled romance” being over is wrong on every level. The two stars, who had a brief fling more than 30 years ago, were never back together. Gossip Cop can clear up the situation.
Cruise had a brief relationship with the iconic singer in 1985 when he was just 22-years-old, but according to the Globe, they started secretly hooking up again last October. An alleged insider, however, tells the magazine that Cher no longer wants to be involved with the movie star because she can’t handle his “wacky ways.”
The story gets a bit convoluted from there. The “wacky” antics referenced are the infamous moment when Cruise jumped on Oprah Winfrey’s couch in 2005, as well as his altercation with Matt Lauer on the Today show that same year. The alleged source says, “Cher said that she used to think Tom was a dignified and private guy – that is, until he jumped up and down on a couch over Katie Holmes during a TV interview. That’s along with his bizarre rants against psychiatry on the Today show.”
These incidents occurred nearly 15 years ago, but in the magazine’s version of reality, Cher got back together with Cruise last October. Are we to believe she’s been dating the movie star for nearly a year, but has suddenly recalled his headline-making behavior from 2005 and decided she’s turned off by him? Nothing about the premise makes sense. That’s because none of this is remotely true.
Gossip Cop immediately busted the Globe last October when it falsely claimed Cruise and Cher were dating again. The singer’s spokesperson told us on the record she wasn’t in a relationship with the movie star. It’s been nearly a year since we debunked the rumors, and the two haven’t been spotted together in any capacity. There’s also not a single other publication in the world that has linked them.
Meanwhile, Gossip Cop called out the magazine two months ago for alleging that Cruise was falling for his female skydiving instructor. That story wasn’t true either, but it also made no mention of him dating Cher. The unreliable outlet clearly has trouble keeping track of its phony narratives.
It’s also worth noting, when the tabloid isn’t busy making up stories about Cher’s dating life, it often targets her health. Last year, Gossip Cop busted the outlet for falsely claiming Cher was too sick to continue performing. In the time since we corrected that report, the singer embarked on a world tour and performed her own Las Vegas residency.
